The Boat

This is an interactive graphic novel about escape from the Vietnam War. My sister-in-law was vietnamese and was tortured, as a young girl by the VC, for working for the Americans. Her body was marred by white skin where she had been burned. Maybe knowing her story made this novel hit closer to home or maybe it is just my nature, either way throughout it, I cried.

This story is graphic and heartbreaking but one, I think, needs to be told. The art work coupled with the animation and sound effects added so much depth and emotion to the story. The singing...it was the singing that really got to me, the mournful, soul wrenching melodies that yanked at my heart strings just crushed me. So many in my family were touched by this war, seeing something like this come to life feels poetic in its raw, horrific realness. Wow, just wow!
